Reports, SAF-T & your accountant

The result report, the VAT basis, and exporting your books in a format any accounting system can read.

Reports

ByteBill produces the reports a small business is asked for:

  • Result (Resultat) — income and costs for a period
  • VAT basis — the figures behind your MVA-melding for the term
  • Period exports for your accountant

Reports are generated on demand, because they change every time you post a voucher. Each one can be produced as a PDF and saved.

SAF-T export

ByteBill exports Norwegian SAF-T Financial v1.30 — the standard file format the tax authority and every accounting package understand. SAF-T has been mandatory for periods from 1 January 2025.

Export it when:

  • Your accountant asks for the year
  • The tax authority asks for your records
  • You're moving to a different system

That last one matters. Your books are yours, and they come out of ByteBill whole, in an open standard, without anyone having to agree to let you go. There is no export tier and no lock-in.

Working with an accountant

Most businesses using ByteBill still have an accountant look at the year. The workflow is:

  1. Keep your books in ByteBill through the year — confirm the drafts, tag the vouchers, settle the payments.
  2. Export SAF-T (or the period report) at year end.
  3. Send it to your accountant.

Because SAF-T is the standard format, your accountant can load it into whatever they already use. You don't have to work in their software, and they don't have to work in yours.

What ByteBill doesn't do

ByteBill is a tool, not a bookkeeping service. It doesn't do your books for you, and nobody at ByteBill reviews your accounts. See Statutory returns for the returns it prepares, including the årsregnskap.
