Delete Your Account

Last updated

You can delete your ByteBill account and the personal data associated with it at any time. You do not need to contact us to do it, and you do not need to sign in to read this page.

Export your records first

Bookkeeping law requires you to retain your business records for a set period, and that obligation is yours — deleting your ByteBill account does not remove it.

When you delete your account, ByteBill keeps a closing package for each company on it: the closing balance, SAF-T, the general ledger and every document (the original and its PDF). It is not available in the app, but we hand it over on request — email support@bytebill.no — for as long as the retention period lasts (see below). The package is locked to that purpose and deleted when the period ends.

You can still keep your own copy first, and it costs nothing:

  1. Export SAF-T for every period you are required to keep. See Reports and SAF-T.
  2. Save the PDFs of any documents you want to keep individually.
  3. Store them somewhere you control.

Option 1 — delete it in the app

  1. Open the 3-dot menu (top right) → Preferences.
  2. Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete account (Norwegian: Slett konto).
  3. Review what will be deleted, tap Continue, then confirm with the code we text to your phone number.

Deletion happens immediately, while you wait, and the app confirms when it is done.

Option 2 — ask us to delete it

Email support@bytebill.no from the email address on your account, or using the phone number registered to it, with the subject "Delete my account".

Include:

  • The phone number the account uses
  • Any organisation numbers connected to it

We will verify the request is genuinely yours before acting on it — deleting someone's accounts on the say-so of an unverified email would be its own kind of security failure. We complete verified requests within 30 days and confirm by email when it is done. Until we have acted on it, you can withdraw an emailed request.

What is deleted

  • Your account and login
  • Your phone number and verified identity details
  • Your name, contact details and preferences
  • Your connections to organisations
  • Your customer, product and employee records
  • Your ledger, vouchers, invoices, receipts and payroll data
  • Documents and PDFs archived on your behalf
  • Support correspondence, once any open request is resolved

What is retained, and why

What Why For how long
The closing package (accounting records subject to statutory retention) Bokføringsloven § 13 requires retention regardless of whether you keep using the software 5 years after the end of the last financial year with entries; then deleted
Backups Protection against data loss; they cannot be edited to remove one account Database backups: 7 days. Files: 30 days after deletion, plus a day or two for the nightly backup jobs. After that, deleted data is gone from them automatically
Records under legal hold An ongoing legal claim or a request from an authority Until the matter concludes
Minimal invoicing and payment records for our own business Our own bookkeeping obligation as a company The statutory period
Anonymised, aggregated statistics Cannot be linked back to you Indefinitely

Retained records are locked to the retention obligation. They are not used for any other purpose, and they are deleted when the period expires.

Invoices already sent or received

An invoice you sent to another business is also their record, and they have their own obligation to keep it. Deleting your ByteBill account removes your copy; it cannot remove theirs. The same applies in reverse to invoices you received.

Changed your mind?

Deletion in the app happens immediately, while you wait, and cannot be stopped or reversed — your login and data are gone before the confirmation appears. If you sign up again with the same phone number later, you start a new, empty account.

A request sent by email can be withdrawn until we have acted on it: write to support@bytebill.no.
