ByteBill is now a complete accounting system

What started as a better way to read an invoice has become the whole set of books — ledger, VAT, receipts, payroll and statutory returns.

When we started, ByteBill did one thing well: it made an invoice readable. Instead of a flat PDF, you got a document you could open up — expand a line, see what produced it, understand a charge without calling anyone.

That feature is still here. But talking to the businesses using it made something obvious. They were not short of an invoice viewer. They were short of a way to keep their books at all.

What's in it now

ByteBill has grown into a full accounting system for small businesses:

  • A real double-entry ledger on the complete NS 4102 chart, curated down to the accounts you actually use
  • Receipt and bill capture — photograph it or forward it by email, and it arrives already posted as a draft
  • Posting tags that categorise a voucher in one tap, and remember which supplier gets which tag
  • VAT handled properly, with the standard SAF-T tax codes behind it
  • Payroll, including feriepenger, arbeidsgiveravgift and OTP in Norway
  • Statutory returns — MVA-melding, A-melding, skattemelding and årsregnskap, assembled from your books and validated before you file
  • SAF-T export, built in and not a paid extra

All of it on the same PEPPOL (EHF) foundation the product already ran on.

What hasn't changed

The dynamic invoice is still part of it — now one feature of an accounting system, rather than the whole product.

And two rules stayed fixed. You file your own returns — ByteBill prepares and validates them, you submit with your own BankID. And your data leaves in SAF-T whenever you want it, at no charge, because your books are yours.

Who it's for

Businesses below regnskapsplikt — sole proprietorships, micro-companies and foreninger with a bookkeeping duty and no one employed to discharge it. If that is you, have a look at what it does.
